To be fair, the movie came out in November of 1940, and the dinosaur designs reflect the limited science at the time.  For that I give the fattysaurs a pass.  :)

I never watched Fantasia, but I did see the Rite of Spring segment recently, and honestly I found the fight more goofy than scary, mainly cuz I just can`t take the fatty, old school, tail dragging dino designs seriously, they just look too cartoony to be scary. This updated version is certainly a big improvement.

It was a delightful movie, but it would be cool to see the dinosaurs more accurately depicted (like you have shown above)

Beautiful rendition of a disney classic, great job! Clap  Your work is VERY impressive!

Well, it wasn't an allosaurus in Fantasia. It was actually a tyrannosaurus. Walt insisted the animators give it three fingers because he thought it looked better that way. Still, very impressive work.

I'm actually planning to do a drawing remake of Fantasia's Rite of Spring, updated for modern science. But still will be the same with dinosaurs rom different time periods mixed together.

This segment in particular gave me nightmares in the original. I don't know what it was; the uncharacteristic blade like teeth of the not-accurate t-rex, the grabby hands, the fact the stegosaurus couldn't escape, the dramatic music - either way this was the scene. This is fantastic and recaptures all of that terror and awe.

Though the drawing lines are  a bit rude to my eyes, the shadows and the light effects are gorgeous! Not to mention the blur effect of the rain... Simply wonderful!!
Good idea too to replace the T-Rex by a less anachronic subject.

A very nice tribute to Disney's animated adaptation of the Rite of Spring! Clap

I always loved this segment from Fantasia when I was a kid it still is gives back so many memories I have to admit i felt bad for the Stegosaurus losing against the Tyrannosaurus but what scared the crap out of me is that one segment ''A Night on Bald Mountain'' that depicted the devil his actual name is Chernabog that unleashed his minions who where tortured souls and demons I went to another room to not see it and when it was over I came back to see Ave Maria which the segment is very creative with all those monks walking with lights Fantasia will always be in my childhood

wow i like this, here is something weird I'm going to say, the T'rex in rite of spring, in a way should be considered to be one of disney's worst villains because he kills the main "protagonist and wins!   Which obviously means that the protagonist died BEFORE the antagonist dies,  this is rare for disney movies

Okay why did you Replaced Tyrannosaurus Rex with Allosaurus?
Reply
:iconlinkzilla:
Linkzilla Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2014
There are a few reasons; 1 - in the original animation the T-Rex had three fingered hands instead of two. 2 - Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus lived millions of years apart from each other in different eras - so a fight between them wouldn't be possible. Allosaurus was a predator that basically evolved to hunt and kill Stegosaurus, so it seems more probable that the original Animation team was thinking Allosaurus when drawing it, with the presence of a third finger and all.

Actually, according to Disney wiki, Walt himself was aware of the fact that Tyrannosaurus Rex only had 2 fingers, but he thought 3 would make it look scarier, if you know what I mean.

The T. rex looked more like a Torvosaurus than an Allosaurus, though, in that it was bulky and didn't have the brow horns.

That animation was always my favorite as a kid watching Fantasia, but it drove a tad nuts knowing T-rex was fighting Stegosaurus.
